School Overview

The Royal Hospital School (RHS) is a leading co-educational boarding and day school for 11 to 18 year olds set in 200 acres of Suffolk countryside. It provides a full and broad education, enriched by a unique 300 year heritage, fit for the modern world.

Team sports are at the heart of sporting provision at RHS with outstanding performance in both XV and XIIs rugby by boys across the age groups and, more recently, girls. This year 27 boys played representative rugby and four are currently playing U18s Independent Schools RFC The Lambs.

The Headmaster awards a limited number of academic and co-curricular scholarships and awards each year to exceptional candidates entering the School at 11, 13 or 16. Sports Scholarships are awarded by competition in recognition of outstanding performance in a practical assessment, on recommendation from the candidate’s coach or teacher and performance in a scholar’s interview. A Sports Scholarship normally represents a 20% discount on the full boarding or day fee throughout the pupil’s time at the School. Candidates in receipt of an scholarship or award may be eligible to apply for additional assistance by way of a means-tested bursary should the financial circumstances of the family necessitate it. Bursaries are awarded in the form of an additional discount on the boarding or day fee, depending on the financial circumstances of the applicants and subject to the School’s budgetary constraints.
