GENERAL (SKILLS)
Throughout my high school career I have been very involved on all sporting and cultural levels. This has taught me to manage my time efficiently as well as maintain a balance between academics and extramural activities. During my one year stay in New Zealand I was given responsibilities in ensuring that the overseas boys attended classes and training and had to assist in their learning of English
OCCUPATIONAL INTERESTS
I have a love and passion for all sports, but specifically rugby. My dream is to play rugby at the highest level possibly as well as to learn and gain as much playing experience abroad. I am fully prepared to work and train hard in order to fulfill my dream and am fully aware of the hard work needed in order to achieve playing rugby at a top level. I am a fast learner, hard worker, determined and enthusiastic about life and rugby. I am very capable of fulfilling all tasks given to me to the best of my ability as well as to the expectations of others.
Playing in a rugby team also allowed me the opportunity to learn and understand the importance of working as a team and that no individual is more important than
another. When I arrived in New Zealand I completely adapted to hostel life and was exposed to coaching and training never experienced in South Africa but I savored every moment and returned a far better player I am passionate about playing, coaching and learning about rugby as well as the opportunity it offers in building relationships and networking with others. I will thrive in any environment that offers such a diverse mix of people, experiences and challenges.
I look forward to being able to work in an environment which will offer me the most
exposure and practical experience as well as challenges and one that will enable me to learn and grow as much as possible.
MY STORY SHORT AND SWEET
Straight out of high school I was on a plane to New Zealand for filling one of my
biggest dreams to play rugby there. I arrived in New Zealand in February and I hit the ground running, learning more and more each day. After doing well in the trial
games I was selected to play in the schools 10’s team and we ended up winning the Christchurch 10’s tournament unbeaten in 9 games (2 of which were curtains raiser to the crusaders). Subsequent to the 10’s tournament I was then selected to play for the schools 1st xv and had a memorable season, where we ended off 2nd
in New Zealand and unbeaten in the South Island, only losing one game the whole year to the top school in the country. We were regarded the best 1st xv in St Bedes history! One of my greatest rugby memories was sitting in the change room under where Dan Carter engraved his name after beating Christchurch boy’s high school at their home ground! After arriving home from New Zealand I approached my old lions coach Kaya and he enticed me to enroll in University of Johannesburg(UJ) and I joined the lions U/21 Currie cup squad, where I played 2 out of the 3 games. I also did extremely well for UJ moving from the u/20 team into and securing the 2nd team spot and playing in the semi and the final for UJ 2nd side. I then decided to focus on my rugby at UJ and started to get recognized, this allowed me to have a big impact for UJ in 2011, whereby I started in the u/21 a side and moved into the 2nd team. I was then called up into the 1st team. I played 1 game for the 1st team in which I did very well, but unfortunately tore ligaments in my ankle putting me out of the game for 8 weeks. It was during this time I had been asked to move to Pretoria to join the Bulls U/21. As part of my rehabilitation back into playing, I joined the University of Pretoria (TUKS) “Jong span†(U21) side. As the new kid on the block in the middle of the season I started at the bottom and in the no.16 jersey and ended up starting the last few games for the team including in the semi and the final. At the end of the season I was invited to join the TUKS varsity cup side and after six hard weeks of training I was due to contracted Bulls players moving into the TUKS squad.
Plans for the future;
I do believe that I am good enough to become a professional rugby player and I will stop at nothing to achieve my biggest dream and goal. I am just looking for my
opportunity and will grasp it with both hands. I look forward to being challenged as a person and player and thrive in environments. I believe one of my greatest attributes as a player and person to my ability to adapt to new situations and create positive situations out of potentially negative ones!
