Personal Overview

I am a physical inside centre with a well-rounded, high-level skill set. I combine strong ball-carrying and contact ability with confident distribution, operating effectively as a secondary playmaker. I also provide a consistent threat at the breakdown, supported by my experience playing in the back row earlier in my development.

Having recently completed my time with the Northampton Saints U18 Academy, I made seven appearances in this season’s Academy League, starting every game I was fully fit for selection. My season was briefly disrupted by an ankle injury, but I returned to full fitness and maintained strong, consistent performances.

At the start of the season, I was selected as an England Academy Player (EAP), where I benefited from extensive coaching support, including regular individual skill development sessions and detailed performance reviews.

Alongside this, I served as the defensive leader for my school, Northampton School for Boys (NSB), helping drive the team to become the top-ranked side in the country through the Daily Mail Trophy. In March 2026, we also secured the Continental Tyres Schools National Cup, defeating Epsom College at Twickenham Stadium.

To Whom It May Concern,

I am pleased to provide this reference for Callum Tarry, a talented centre who has recently been released from the Northampton Saints Academy, where he has been a valued member since the age of 13.

Callum’s time in the academy system has not been without its challenges, having experiences periods of unfortunate injury that have limited his game time. However, throughout these setbacks he has consistently demonstrated resilience, determination, and a strong commitment to his development. His work ethic is exceptional, and he approaches both training and match play with a highly coachable attitude, always seeking to improve and take on feedback.

In terms of his playing attributes, Callum thrives on the physical aspects of the game. This is particularly evident in his ball carrying, defensive tackling, and effectiveness at the breakdown. He brings real intensity and presence to contact situations, which makes him a valuable asset on both sides of the ball.

Alongside his physical strengths, Callum has worked hard to develop his technical skill set. He is capable of moving the ball effectively, possesses a strong offloading game, and continues to improve his decision-making in open play. Defensively, he has made significant strides in his

movement and positioning, showing a clear commitment to becoming a well-rounded player.

Importantly, Callum has also developed strong leadership qualities. He sets high standards for himself and leads by example through his effort, attitude, and professionalism within the squad environment.

Callum is a player who will continue to develop, and in the right environment, I have no doubt he has the ability to keep improving and progressing further in the game. He would be a positive addition to any club or programme willing to invest in his continued growth.

I would strongly recommend Callum and look forward to seeing how his rugby journey continues.

Yours faithfully,

Mark Hopley

To Whom It May Concern, It has been an absolute pleasure of mine to have been able to Coach Callum Tarry over many years, at both School and Club level. Over those 10 years I have not only been able to get to know Callum exceptionally well as a rugby player but have had the privilege to get to know Callum the person.

Coaching Callum is actually a very easy task, he is so knowledgeable of the game himself, he has near immediate understanding of all the situations we discuss, not only individual coaching elements but also team elements. He is a clear leader of all the teams he plays in, gaining complete respect from ALL his teammates and coaches alike. One of the main reasons Callum gets this respect, is he oAers the same respect back to all those teammates around him.

It is very true to say, having Callum In your team is a godsend, for his calm leadership and exceptional understanding of the game. Onto his ability as a player, when he crosses over that whitewash. Callum is always 100% committed and gives absolutely everything for the team when he is playing. He is blessed with an individual rugby talent that is very rare to see. He has exceptional ball skills and can distribute and bring other players into the game at will. That is a part of Callum’s game that he absolutely possesses, however, as much as Callum brings others into the game, as a coach you always want him on the ball taking defenders on himself. He has exceptional footwork and explosive power and balance on the ball better than I have seen from any player at this age! He finds beating defences second nature.Attacking though is only part of Callum’s game, his defence is equally as impressive. Priding himself in literally cutting the opposition players in half with his defensive hits.I genuinely couldn’t actually remember a time in 10 years where Callum has missed a tackle! And then there is his ability to jackal and turn the ball over on the floor at the breakdown. Always multiple turnovers or penalties won every game he plays in. Mostly due to his natural strength and tenacity.

Callum really is a wonderful all round player.

Whoever is lucky enough to be able to welcome Callum into their team, I couldn’t recommend him enough. Not only is he an exceptional player and class team mate, most importantly he is an outstanding Human being on and oA the field who like I say has been an absolute privilege to both coach and be able to call my friend over the last 10 years.
