James Pickering is a dynamic and intelligent rugby player whose journey through some of England’s top development pathways reflects his dedication, skill, and rugby intellect. A graduate of the Sale Sharks U18 Academy, he developed a strong technical foundation and tactical awareness, working within a high-performance environment that shaped his all-round game. During his school years, James was a standout performer for the Kirkham Grammar School 1st XV, competing at the highest level of schoolboy rugby. He showcased his talent and leadership at elite tournaments such as the St Joseph’s Rugby Festival and the Sedbergh Super 10s, consistently influencing games with his decision-making and composure under pressure.

Now signed on a Championship contract with Caldy RFC, James has become an influential part of the 1st team squad, featuring in matches against top opposition, including Durham University’s Super BUCS 1st XV, Richmond and Coventry contributing to Caldy’s Championship campaign. Known for his ability to scan space and identify attacking opportunities, James poses a constant threat with his sharp game awareness, dominant presence, and precise execution. His accurate and powerful box kicking combined with crisp, consistent passing make him a key playmaker capable of controlling territory and tempo at the highest level.
