Personal Overview

Merlyn Bishop is a fearless and highly disciplined flanker who is a relentless force on the field, combining explosive athleticism with an exceptional rugby IQ. Known for his tireless work rate, dominant tackling, and unmatched breakdown skills, he thrives in high-pressure situations, making crucial turnovers and disrupting opposition attacks. His speed and agility allow him to cover the field effectively, while his physicality in contact ensures a commanding presence in both attack and defence.

Bishop attended the Sharks Academy in 2018 and 2019, going on provincial tours with U19 and U21 teams, during which time he also played U20 club rugby for Northwood Crusaders. He then represented Varsity College in the KZN Premier Division Moor Cup and the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN Impi) in the Varsity Shield.

In 2024, Bishop was recruited and signed by Hong Kong club USRC Tigers RFC, where he had an outstanding season in the Hong Kong Premiership.
