As an active sports coach and player with an interest in multiple sports, I was attracted to the module, physiology of sport, exercise and physical activity, as well as performance analysis and applied performance analysis. I have always been interested in sport, and analysing sports performers. Whether it’s watching games and seeing how players can improve or coaching at my local club to try and help players improve I always enjoy it and have a keen interest in it.
As a hardworking student I have always met deadlines and produced work at a high standard, I think I would be able to put these skills to use in this course as I have always had a keen interest in sport and expanding my knowledge, I believe I would be a good fit in this university and apply myself to any challenge within this course.
I have studied sport at GCSE and level 3 BTEC at Shrewsbury college and have acquired an extensive base of knowledge around the course and modules you have to offer. I have shown this in my most recent assignments covering sports coaching and performance profiling. These assignments and modules have caught my interest and given me the inspiration to pursue this type of career.
I have always been an active sports player. From a young age I played rugby for Telford Hornets rugby club and over the years have built on my skills to be fortunate enough to play at county level and have trials for North Midlands. When I am not playing, I am an assistant coach for the girl’s rugby team at Telford Hornets as I feel rewarded seeing other players make progress and improve, knowing I have made a difference. My years of enthusiasm and playing sports have helped me develop my leadership and communication skills and I have shown that I can be a strong team player whilst also showing my authority and knowledge in the coaching aspect of sports.
For previous work experience I attended Wrekin View Primary School in which I worked with a sports coach. My role for the weeks I was there was to aid coaching the pupils in many different sports such as football, rugby and basketball which helped improve my coaching skills and knowledge and understanding of many different sports. I also had the opportunity to coach some pupils independently which allowed me to show that I am able to communicate and work with all ages and show that I can be professional and approachable, which was shown as I was invited back to do further work experience which I had hoped to do if the Covid-19 pandemic had not made this difficult to do.
While playing different sports and activities at school I have gained many achievements which I am proud of. As previously mentioned, I earned the privilege of playing rugby for my county and also having trials at North Midlands. Whilst at school I completed the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and am working to try and complete the award. To be able to better myself and become a more helpful member of my rugby club and for college, I decided to complete the Level 3 Rugby refereeing course and I have also achieved my Level 2 rugby coaching qualification. These show that I have a willingness to continually develop my skills and qualifications in order to become the best possible self I can and to strive within the sports I play and the career I would like to do. Over the past year I have also played for North midlands rugby against Cheshire and leicestershire, while playing North Mids i have been playing mens rugby for Telford Hornets Rugby Club, during the 22-23 season I played for the north midlands under 20s again and had midlands trials aswell
