Thomas Ponting 

My name is Thomas Ponting I am a versatile forward playing in the 1st XV at Wycliffe college at no8 and hooker but can also play anywhere in the backrow. I was released from Gloucester Rugby under 17 Academy pathway and I am looking to continue playing at the highest level.

I am currently in Year 13 at Wycliffe College in Stroud on a Sports Scholarship, having been offered a sports scholarships at three other schools. As a player my strengths are my aggression when ball carrying and determination in defence as well as my tackle technique. However, I would say my strongest attribute is my vision in attack and the leadership (As proven by being first 15 rugby captain). As we went into lockdown and the contact side of my game was forced to take a backseat, I have worked hard to develop my handling and general skill set to ensure I am not only be one of the most physical players on the pitch but also one of the most skilful. Since being back at school in September I have had a strong season and started playing colts for national 1 team, Clifton.

Versatile Forward 

I have played in various positions ranging from prop to number 12 and my preferred position is hooker and number 8.  I enjoy the physical aspect of the game, have been successful at the breakdown area and relish the challenge of targeting the opposition fly half. 

Rugby Achievements 

·      Captained the Gloucester U15 DPP against Oxford County.

·      Captained the Gloucester U16 Academy against Scarlets.

·      Captained my local rugby club Cirencester for five years (U12 to current age group).

·      Captained my school rugby team and reached the EDF plate final at Kingsholm in Year 9. 

·      Represented Cirencester RFU at the South West 7s Tournament in June 2019.

·      Wycliffe college first 1^st xv captain for the 2021/2022 season

·      Captained Wycliffe at Merchiston festival 2021/2022

·      Completed my Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. 

·      Played in goal for my local U15 football club - captained the team to win the league division 3. 

·      Represented my school cricket team. 

·      Advanced Skier – competed in the South West Inter-Schools Dry Ski Slope Championships.

·      RYA level 3 dingy sailor, keen mountain biker and clay pigeon shooter. 

I am a passionate sportsman and a lifelong lover of playing and watching rugby. I am motivated and have a strong work ethic to learn more about the physical and tactical elements of the game. I am a proven leader with experience in captaining a number of teams on the rugby field. I thrive on the responsibility of influencing and challenging my team mates, where I am developing clear communication and effective negotiating skills.
