To Whom It May Concern:

I have known Sam Valpy for the last four years as the head coach of his age group through school years 9-11 and then most recently as attack and backs coach of the first team at Samuel Whitbread Academy. From this experience, I can say with confidence that Sam is a dedicated student-athlete who leads by example and will be an asset to any future team or program.

Sam is an extremely versatile player who is primarily an accomplished scrum half but has the skill, experience and ability to play Fly-half and Full back. As a scrum half Sam is a strong defender and team leader. He has a quick and consistent pass off either hand and an exceptional kicking game. Sam has the confidence and communication skills to act as the conduit between forwards and backs.

During the four years that I had the privilege of coaching him, Sam has stood out as a leader both on and off the pitch. He played in our 2019 National Vase winning U15’s team, playing a year up. He is the starting scrum half for our first team currently, with a year still to play. He has also volunteered his time on several occasions to referee and coach the younger years at the school.

Sam’s goal is to continue to develop his already outstanding rugby ability and play at the next level. I know that he will be an outstanding addition to any team. To whom it may concern...

Sam was selected in the East Midlands u18s squad for 2022. He impressed at the selection day with his energy and ability to inject pace into the game both as a starting and finishing player. His pass accuracy helped the 10 set the back line depth and attacking line, and his kicking from hand, specifically box kicking from the base of the ruck, was well chosen with good communication to those around him.

Sam was an important part of the match day squad, good to coach and performed to a high standard. Strongly recommended for playing at a higher level.
