My name is Alan Monk, and I’m proud to call the Blaketown Rugby Club my home. I came up through the junior grades here and have worn the black and white jersey with pride for many seasons. Blaketown isn’t just a club — it’s a community, a legacy of hard, honest rugby played by generations of West Coasters.

Through my time at Blaketown, I’ve had the honour of representing the West Coast Rugby Team, where I learned what it means to play for something bigger than yourself. That experience pushed me to the next level, and I was fortunate enough to be selected for the New Zealand Heartland XV — a true highlight of my rugby career.

Playing rugby on the West Coast is special. The conditions are tough, the crowds are passionate, and the rugby is as real as it gets. It builds character, resilience, and lifelong mateships. There’s something unique about the Coast — the pride, the history, and the heart. If you're willing to work hard and commit to the jersey, there’s no better place to play.

Coaching Qualifications

My name is Alan Monk, and I’m proud to have spent my entire rugby journey with the Blaketown Rugby Club. From junior grades through to senior premier rugby, I’ve worn the black and white jersey with pride and purpose. Blaketown isn’t just where I played — it’s where I’ve learned the values of discipline, teamwork, and community.

In recent years, I’ve taken on a coaching role within the club, completing my New Zealand Rugby Level 2 Coaching Certificate and attending various coaching clinics focused on forward play, defence structure, and player development. I’ve coached across junior and senior levels at Blaketown, with a focus on building strong fundamentals and a team-first mindset.

Blaketown Rugby is built on hard work, loyalty, and tradition. Coaching here is about more than rugby — it’s about shaping good people on and off the field. I believe in a positive, player-led culture that encourages young players to take pride in the jersey and push themselves every time they step on the field.
