Overview
I have always had a love and a passion for rugby. The life skills and life-long friends that I have made is something that I cherish dearly. Since the end of my playing days I decided to get into rugby coaching and teaching as I love to work with people, and started to build up my knowledge, skills and connections which over time served me well and helped me to develop in what I am and know today. I started coaching primary school teams at various different age groups and then moved on to the secondary schools coaching scene, were I really started to grow and become involved in the provincial set up at the Lions schools rugby union. I was fortunate enough to be appointed the director of rugby at the high school were I was coaching and teaching in 2012. This allowed me to implemented a rugby program which addressed the school and communities needs to help grow the game of rugby, improve the rugby results, discipline, produce more provincial representative players and attract talented players to enroll at the school. Since being involved at the Lions Schools rugby union I have been involved in 0/16 High performance programs, appointed to the Lions schools provincial team selection committee, and also coaching 0/16, 0/18 and 0/19 Lions provincial school teams. I have attended many rugby development and upskilling programs and courses over the years and was also privileged to be mentored by top coaches within the South African rugby fraternity. In December 2018 my family and I immigrated to New Zealand were I was appointed as a Technology teacher at Hauraki Plains College. 2019-2021 I continued with studying to complete my Honors degree therefore I could only contribute as a consultant and not able to be involved in coaching capacity. 2022 I was appointed as the 1st XV head coach at Hauraki Plains College and enjoyed much success during the 2022 rugby season. I enjoy coaching forwards and coaching defense. I place a big emphasis on defense by implementing a defense system and philosophy. I take pride in the fact that I strive to coach in such a manner that I don’t only put trophies in the cupboard but build a friendly and trust worthy environment for players to preform to their full potential, as I don’t just coach players but people too.
