Club Overview

Southern Districts Rugby Club a.k.a Southern Pirates has a proud and strong history within the Victoria Rugby Union Community. Our club was formed in 1972 and has provided a local playing environment in both junior and senior rugby union since this time.

Southern Districts competes in the Premier division which is the highest division of rugby union in Victoria. Based on the Mornington Peninsula and only 5 minutes from some of the best beaches in Victoria Southern Districts Rugby Club is proudly affiliated with the Cerberus Navy Rugby Union Club in the Senior Rugby.

Pathway to the Melbourne Rising team, representing the entire Victorian Rugby community, playing in the inaugural national third tier competition, the National Rugby Championship (NRC). Two of our 2015 squad were selected for the 2015 Rising Squad.

The NRC is the penultimate step on the ‘Road to Rebels’ and to playing Super 15 rugby, the elite pathway program set in place to ensure the long term success of Victorian Rugby. One of our Young stars has just signed a professional contract with the Melbourne Rising after featuring in all of the Melbourne Rising games in 2015.

The 2016 season sees;
· New Coaching Structure
· Some of the best playing and training facilities in Victoria
· Training pitches renovated to ensure a quality surface for 2016.
· Installation of new lights on both training pitches ready for the start of the 2016 season
· New additional changing rooms to accommodate the growing Female members
· Facilities now have a fully equipped strong room fitted to accommodate Olympic and Powerlifting needs
· Chance to play alongside some of the Melbourne Rebels Super 15 squad

Assistance with finding work and accommodation etc. Players with a tertiary or trade qualification preferred, though not essential.
