Club Overview
In the 1970-71 season, a bunch of 19 to 20 year old men fed up with traveling off the Island to play rugby,
decided to start up their own side thus giving birth to Canvey Island Rugby Club. With no home pitch or
club house to call their own games had to be played away, not even a set of matching shirts were issued
at this point resulting in borrowing shirts from their old P.E. teacher and mentor Ken Light, from the then
Canvey secondary school. Combining this with using the Haystack public house as a base the Canvey
rugby side began to take shape
Our aims are now now to push for a second consecutive promotion into London 2
and become a strong competitive side in the London leagues, then to push on further.
