Club Overview

Melton Mowbray RFC have enjoyed great success over the last two seasons since the appointment of Gareth Collins as Head Coach and Marcus Badham as 1st XV Captain in 2014. They have won back to back promotions having won their Midlands 3 League in 2015 and their Midlands 2 League in 2016. Across the two seasons Melton have only lost 2 league matches. The side has also enjoyed success in cup competitions, reaching the semi-final of the Junior Vase National Cup competition in 2015 and winning the Leicestershire County Cup for the first time in the club's history in 2016 by defeating National 2 side Hinckley RFC.

Both Gareth Collins and Marcus Badham began their senior rugby careers at Leicester Tigers within the youth ranks, following Regional and International Junior Honours respectively. Collins went on to play 12 seasons in the National Leagues with Rugby Lions and Leicester Lions playing over 250 games and scoring 170 tries. He also represented Warwickshire and England Counties, captaining England on 4 occasions. Badham also has National League experience with South Leicester and Syston RFC before he re-joined his childhood club, Melton Mowbray. Collins had previous coaching experience with Leicestershire U20's before taking the player-coach role at Melton.
Representative levels that players have reached:
A number of players have gained junior representative honours for Leicestershire. Last season Harry Wood represented Leicestershire and Midlands U18's. Sam Badham, Wayne Brookes, Kieron Stone, Lewis Moult, Chris Rose, Lee Miller, James Stapleford and Matt Cox all have senior county caps.

Where you see the club moving forward:
Melton is an ambitious amateur club who wants to be at as high a level as possible. Having won promotion to Level 6 the immediate goal is to consolidate at this level before potentially pushing for promotion to the national leagues. In order to do this more strength in depth is required so they would welcome any new players either with experience at a higher level or those with potential to play at a higher level
