Club Overview

Looking for a gap year playing a decent standard of rugby? Or perhaps from New Zealand, Australia, or South Africa and are keen to enjoy a UK summer followed by some rugby with a great bunch of lads?

Mersea Island RFC are a progressive rugby club located a few miles south of Colchester. With great links to London, Mersea are now looking for players for the 24/25 season (August-March).

Mersea Island is a small coastal town with a bustling community which caters to all kinds of outdoor activities including paddleboarding, windsurfing, kayaking, wingfoiling, sailing, and cycling. The island also plays host to a large sandy beach which is busy during the summer months and there are various pubs and restaurants to keep you busy during the evenings. Central London is easily reached in an hour and a half by public transport, and there are also two large cites in Colchester and Chelmsford to find more local nightlife. Fancy getting over to Europe? Standstead Airport is less than an hour away with good links from Colchester.

Having been promoted twice in the last two seasons playing an exciting brand of rugby, Mersea Island RFC is now looking to finish the current season a respectable mid-table in what is a good standard of amateur rugby. With a bustling youth section with over 150 players from U6-U16, Mersea are looking for players to add to the senior men’s section and push for promotion next season.

Although primarily looking for Props, Locks, and Inside backs, any position would be considered to join our fun and enjoyable rugby environment.

Mersea Island can offer players the following:

·       Level 3 (RFU Advanced) coaching team

·       Individual player development programmes

·       Weeknight physiotherapist and S&C programmes

·       Floodlit weeknight training on quality grass pitches

·       Team and individual video analysis and feedback, with player footage available

·       Food after training

·       Transport to away fixtures

·       Training attendance and game availability rewards system (stash etc... no player payments as an amateur club)

As an amateur rugby club, all seting up costs (e.g. Visa, flights) are down to the player. However, the right person would be joining a good club with an enjoyable training and playing environment. There is the potential of seasonal work at Essex Outdoors Mersea (available April-October) which would suit individuals looking to have fun whislt getting paid. All candidates would have to go through the recruitment process first.
